65. WHAT IS TIME BUT A TOOL FOR GOD TO USE?

(The Called To Be A Wife Series – Batch 3)

On 02nd February, 2022, while still a single woman, I wrote:

People may think I’m crazy, as, after all the years of my being single (and they have been many), no suitable man coming on the scene to whisk me away into the horizon and people thinking that my time for love has gone (I’m sure), I still believe that I am called by God to be a wife.

Yes I have not a clue where my husband will come from, where he will find me and how, especially in these Covid times where my already limited movements have become even more restricted. HOWEVER, I STILL BELIEVE THAT ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD AND THAT ONCE HE HAS PURPOSED THAT I WILL BE BETROTHED, I WILL BE!

Yes I know that people have given up on me left, right and centre and there are some days I truly feel like giving up on myself. Yes I know that aunts, other family members, friends, acquaintances (and even my enemies who are probably rejoicing), don’t think that I will ever get married at this stage and that the love of a good, godly man will ever find me. For, to their mind, too much time has passed and by society’s standards, I am too old. Yet, I STILL BELIEVE IT SHALL BE DONE, ONCE GOD HAS WILLED IT.

In light of this, it was refreshing to be reminded two nights ago by the main speaker at a weekly Zoom Bible Study, of how great God is. In one simple sentence, he said, “Never underestimate the resources of God.”

When he said it, I immediately thought of my situation, how everything looked impossible and how my hopes and dreams which had been deferred for so long, seemed to have gone up in flames. The statement reminded me (because sometimes I am prone to forget), that it was not going to be because of me or any power within me, that the things I had long dreamed about and desired would come to fruition but because of who God is. He is faithful and he is all powerful.

Then today, I found this quote that I had typed some time back where I wrote:

“TRUST God. KEEP the faith in Jesus. Don’t EVER give up. Exercise patience and WAIT with a good attitude. He ALWAYS keeps his promises. God may take his time but he DOES come.”

Next to this quote, I found myself typing again and this is what I wrote:

They may tell you that you are running out of time, that you are behind time, consider you as being completely out of time and therefore hopeless and you may even at times consider your own biological clock and wonder at the wait but remind them and yourself, that YOUR GOD OWNS TIME.

Do I need to repeat it? THE GOD OF ALL CREATION OWNS TIME!

He has his hands on time. Time is his subject to be used as he pleases. He can therefore stop time, delay time, preserve time or reverse time.

He can truly do things with time that will blow your mind. For, time is a tool in his hand to be used by HIM as he sees fit. He is not intimidated by time, taken off-guard by time or ever chasing after time. Whatever he has promised, whatever he has purposed, he brings to pass, irrespective of time.

He was purposed to raise Lazarus from the dead and that is exactly what he did even after four days of him rotting. He was purposed to give Abraham and Sarah a baby from Sarah’s womb and that is exactly what he did although they were both stricken in years. As if that was not enough, he did the same for Zacharias and Elizabeth, many years later.

We serve a God that loves to do the unexpected with time and alas, the God of the scriptures is the same God that exists today.

Since his power has not waned, that he still works miracles, that TIME belongs to HIM and that he still intends to honour EVERY promise he makes to his children, tell the naysayers, the doubting Thomases and the town-criers that “HE hath made every thing beautiful in HIS time.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

What is time but a tool that God has created and an instrument in his hand to use? However long we may have been waiting outside the door of what we desire, like David stated in Psalm 31:14-16, we must boldly state, “…I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God. My times are in THY hand…”

In closing, in the Old Testament, the Prophet Habakkuk was also waiting on the time when a vision he had would materialize and manifest. He stated:

  • “I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed TIME, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, WAIT for it; because it will SURELY COME, it will not tarry.” (Habakkuk 2:1-3)
