262. WHAT PEOPLE SAY VS WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS

(The Single Woman Series – Batch 4)

People say:

Oh, you are not married so you are lacking, woeful, a nobody and under a curse, so I will have nothing to do with you and treat you as if you don’t even exist…

but I don’t see that in GOD’S WORD.

I see that I am complete in Christ because in him all the fulness of the Godhead dwells bodily. I see that in whatever I am called, I should abide therein. (Colossians 2:8-10; 1 Corinthians 7:24)

People behave like if marriage is the ticket to heaven but not according to the scriptures. The scriptures make it clear that it is JESUS who is the way, the truth and the life and that no man can come to the Father except by him. This means that there are married people who, not knowing Jesus as Lord, will go to hell and there are single people who, although they never made it down the altar, have relationship with Jesus, the lover of their soul and therefore, have a place reserved for them in heaven.

People say:

Oh you did horrible things in your past and so we are going to stay far from you forever. You are perpetually condemned and a complete write-off

but I don’t see that in GOD’S WORD.

I see that once I confess my sins in repentance, that he is faithful and just to forgive me of my sins and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness and that he subdues my iniquities and puts my sins into the depths of the sea (1 John 1:8-10; Micah 7:19).

People say:

I have this against you and I am going to hold it against you forever

but I don’t see that in GOD’S WORD.

Even when man does not forgive you, God does. People may continue to hold on to things and frown at you forever but the God I serve forgives. Once I repent, he tells me to lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees and make straight paths for my feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be HEALED (Hebrews 12:12-13; Acts 3:19).

People say:

I don’t like you and I have placed you in the doghouse of my estimation, so you will suffer my wrath.

Yet I don’t see that in GOD’S WORD.

I see that HE is boss and nobody else and the last time I checked, HE alone was on the throne and still in control. If he shows me mercy and favour therefore, it could not matter less who does not like me or has me on their ‘discredit’ list. They are but men. HE is God and HE will have the last say in my life (Psalm 29:10; Isaiah 8:12-13; 45:5).

When it comes to people, they have a lot to say but at the end of the day, it is only what God says that matters.

Proverbs 29:25 rightly reminds us that, ““The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.”

Therefore, as 1 Corinthians 2:5 declares, “…your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the POWER OF GOD.”

“Finally, my brethren, be strong IN THE LORD, and in the power of HIS might.Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to STAND against the wiles of the devil.For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to WITHSTAND in the evil day, and having done all, to STAND…STAND therefore, having your loins girt about with TRUTH…And take the helmet of salvation, and the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD.” (Ephesians 6:10-13;17)
