33. HOW MUCH SHOULD HE LOVE ME?

(The Called To Be A Wife Series – Batch 2)

The standard that Jesus gives for men to love their wives is high. They must love them so much, that they are willing to lay down their own lives for them.

In John 15:13, Jesus said: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” This is exactly what He did for us as sinful humans. He gave up his life on earth and painfully, so that we could inherit eternal life in heaven.

Now, in Ephesians 5:25-29, he (the risen Christ) commands men to love their wives in similar fashion. The scripture states:

  • “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church.”

If you are courting or dating a man that does not cherish you or love you very much and selflessly, you are with the wrong man. You may have a man but you don’t have his heart.

If you are a Christian, you already know this in your heart. Furthermore, if you realize that his character does not resemble the Lord Jesus Christ, then maybe it is because the spirit of Christ is NOT in Him. He may say he is a Christian but if his words, actions and conduct does not line up with or resemble at all the love that Jesus has for you and his Church, then maybe it is because he is not really saved. You may be courting or dating a counterfeit (SEE Note 51 on the SINGLE Daughters of God Page entitled – Characteristics of a Counterfeit’)

If somehow the man you’re interested in is a genuine Christian, respects you as a woman and loves you as a sister in the Lord but not fervently and selflessly as a future wife, then this may be because you are not the person he is supposed to marry and vice versa. Did God really put you two together or did you two do that on your own without consulting Him?

Listen to what God has been telling you. Spend time in HIS WORD (the Bible) to hear directly from Him. Whatever he says for you to do (from His Word), do it. Your whole future depends on your obedience.
