327. GOD – THE BEST GIFT GIVER

(The Single Woman Series – Batch 5)

James 1:17 of the Bible, states that “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

As a Father, God knows how to give good gifts to his children (Matthew 7:11). It is also comforting to know that with Him, there is no variableness or shadow of turning. There is no changing of the mind or trepidation. There is no delay when he has purposed in his heart to give it.

The gifts God gives are the best gifts because they are good and perfect for the recipients. The gifts God gives are sure in intention and surely delivered.

The perfect example of this is Jesus Christ. God intended to give him, so that by his sacrificial death, his blood could atone for the sins of the entire world. Jesus was a good and perfect gift, not just for the recipients (the world) but perfect in and of himself. Unlike mankind in general, in him, there was no sin whatsoever, no fault and no blemish. He was a gift that came from above (heaven) and God was purposed to give Him, so that mankind could benefit from salvation.

John 3:16 states “For God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The Bible testifies of Jesus, God’s gift to mankind:

  • “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all…Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief.” (Isaiah 53: 4-6,10)

What a good and perfect gift! What a love to give it!

God has not changed. He continues to give good and perfect gifts to his children, that is, those who have believed in their heart on his Son the Lord Jesus Christ, that although he died, he rose again on the third day as he said he would and who therefore have confessed the truth with his mouth, that he (Jesus) is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Without a doubt, salvation through faith in Jesus Christ was the best gift I ever received. It is a gift that keeps on giving, supporting, guiding, chastening (when necessary) and loving.

While benefiting from this gift, which was bestowed on me without merit, by grace alone through faith alone, I continue to hope, trust and wait on God for other lesser esteemed but beautiful earthly gifts. Knowing that he is able to provide them because he is on the throne, in control and all-powerful and therefore, that there is nothing that is too hard for him to do, it fuels my faith. It fuels my faith that one day, (definitely not in my timing or that of people), these gifts of which I have dreamed about and visualized for so long, will be realized, as sent by The Sovereign Lord.
