350. HE HANGS THE EARTH ON NOTHING!

(The Abundant Life Series – Batch 5)

The Bible which was written thousands of years ago by God’s divine inspiration and sovereign control, called it long before man did. It called it before men like Isaac Newton (who, ironically, history shows studied religion and Bible prophecies and were therefore influenced by them) wrote about his theory on gravity in 1687 and long before man ventured into space in 1961 and confirmed through sight what he had earlier theorized.

Job, a man who lived thousands of years ago and feared and served God, said of him in Job 26:7 of the Bible that, “He stretcheth out the north OVER THE EMPTY PLACE, and HANGETH THE EARTH UPON NOTHING.”

Wow. Anytime you feel like doubting God and whether he can work that miracle in your life, think of that and let it be a reminder that absolutely nothing is too hard for him to do. Imagine, he has the whole earth suspended on NOTHING!

Always 100% accurate, the Bible could have also told the scientists long before they claimed to have “discovered” it, that the world was round. Isaiah, a true prophet of God already stated eons ago of the Lord his Creator, that “It is he that sitteth upon THE CIRCLE OF THE EARTH, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.” (Isaiah 40:22)

So much for the fictitious notion of “mother nature”. There is no such thing. There is God and beside him, none else. In Isaiah 45:5-12, God himself speaking through his prophet declared:

  • “I AM THE LORD, AND THERE IS NONE ELSE, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things. Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I THE LORD HAVE CREATED IT.
  • Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands? Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth? Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. I HAVE MADE THE EARTH, AND CREATED MAN UPON IT: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.”

When planes were eventually invented thousands of years later and we got to sit in them, Isaiah’s depiction of us as grasshoppers became even more apparent. People are indeed like this frail creature from the vantage point of the sky. Isaiah 40:17 rightly states then when compared with God’s power, might and majesty that “All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.”

Why then are we so puffed up? Why is man so foolishly prideful?

In Psalm 53: 1-3, it reads:

  • “The FOOL hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”

In Jeremiah 5:21-24, God stated through his prophet:

  • “Hear now this, O FOOLISH people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: Fear ye not me? saith the Lord. Will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it? But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the Lord our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.”

Isaiah 59:15-16 states of the deplorable condition of mankind:

  • “Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment. And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that THERE WAS NO INTERCESSOR: THEREFORE HIS ARM BROUGHT SALVATION UNTO HIM; and his righteousness, it sustained him.”

When God looked down from earth, he saw the people that he had created and loved dearly but who were estranged from him through sin, rebellion and therefore destined for eternal destruction without his intervention. In his love, he unfolded his plan to redeem (buy back) and reconcile them to himself through the shed blood of his Son the Lord Jesus Christ. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23). Jesus being part of the Godhead, he came down to earth, took on the form of a human being for this purpose and offered himself up as a perfect sacrifice, paying the penalty of death for the sins of the whole world, once for all (Hebrews 10:9-10 and 12).

Now, all that BELIEVE by faith in the power of God, that Jesus rose up from the dead after allowing himself to be killed by wicked men on the third day and CONFESS the truth that he is Lord with their God-given mouth, will be saved.

Romans 10:9-13 states:

  • “That IF thou shalt CONFESS WITH THY MOUTH the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE IN THINE HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man BELIEVETH unto righteousness; and with the mouth CONFESSION is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

In musing on the truth of creation, God’s awesome power when compared with puny human beings and also perhaps in prophetic reference to THE VISIT that the Son of God (Jesus) would later make upon earth to redeem our sinful souls, David, feeling humbled, stated in Psalm 8:1 and 3-6:

  • “O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens…When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; WHAT IS MAN THAT THOU ART MINDFUL OF HIM? AND THE SON OF MAN THAT THOU VISITEST HIM? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet.”

Of what Jesus did for the whole world so that all who believe on him by faith and surrender their lives to his divine Lordship can receive the free gift of SALVATION, Philippians 2:6-8 recounts that he “…being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
