223. FAITH – DO YOU HAVE IT?

(The Faith Forum Series – Batch 3)

Our faith is not a floating faith, drifting mindlessly through the air and hoping against hope that somehow, if we say we have faith long enough and loud enough, that the forces of nature will work out things the way we want them to work out.

No.

Our faith is anchored IN JESUS CHRIST. Our faith is not that things will work out the way we want it. Our faith is that we trust in Jesus and that he will work out everything the way HE wants it, for our good and His glory.

Floating faith is no faith at all.

Jesus is the object. Jesus is the source. Jesus is who our faith is in and grounded upon. He is our solid foundation. He is the chief cornerstone. He is the rock of ages. He IS our all in all.

He is the author. He is the finisher. He is Alpha and Omega. He is the beginning and he is also the ending. (Hebrews 12:2; Revelation 1:8).

He is He which IS and WAS and IS to come. He is the faithful witness, the first begotten of the dead. He is the prince of the kings of the earth and King of Kings himself. (Revelation 1:5).

He is the Captain of our salvation and He holds the keys of hell and death. (Revelation 1:18)

It is JESUS CHRIST that we have faith in, not in ourselves, our abilities, our words or in any other. For, HE alone is worthy to receive glory and honour and power. (Revelation 4:11)

What the world calls ‘faith’ is not faith at all. They have confidence in something outside of Jesus, like themselves, their position in life, their influence their career, their bank account, their connections, their politics, their networking resources, their charisma, their family background, their good looks, their ability to be articulate, their intelligence and so much more but this confidence is to no avail. For, it is not faith. The Bible tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. It also makes it clear that the Word of God is JESUS (Romans 10:17; Revelation 19:13)

As the first stanza and chorus of a popular hymn goes, reminding us of our anchor, rock and firm foundation which is Jesus Christ:

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Stedfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love
