111. WHAT THE ENEMY IS AFTER

(The Faith Forum Series – Batch 2)

The Bible says in John 10:10, that the devil comes to kill, steal and destroy and immediately we think of things like money, earthly possessions, our health and even our very lives, as the things he is after.

Note though, that when it comes to Christians, the devil places even higher on his evil list of priorities, the destruction of three (3) virtues, namely FAITH, HOPE and LOVE: FAITH in the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the power of the true and living God, HOPE of a better day and future in Jesus Christ and LOVE for God first, mankind second and self last.

It was Job’s FAITH that enabled him to worship God right after learning, that life as he knew it, had been destroyed and to later on say: “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.” (Job 13:15)

It was HOPE that made David say, when in the throes of adversity, “I had fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” and it was LOVE that made Jesus come to earth and die for sinful man, seeking the will of the Father above his own, despising the shame but enduring the cross, all for the glory that was set before him (Hebrews 12:2).

The devil knows full well the power of faith, hope and love and their ability to defy all odds. He also knows that were he to succeed in a mission to overthrow any and/or all of these virtues in a person professing Christianity, this would inevitably result in a person being devoid of any use, a person that is a mere caricature of his former self, a person wounded with a broken and wilted spirit.

Nevertheless, when the devil has done all that he can or all that he has been allowed by almighty God to do but yet in DEFIANCE you CHOOSE TO STAND, when he has sent everything possible his evil mind can think of but yet these virtues REMAIN, then the devil knows that he has lost the battle and that you, my friend, have won.

For, to continue to be faithful, to continue to hope, to continue to love at a point where the battle is at its most intense is to confuse the enemy’s camp and to confound his evil purposes because that my friend is not a rational, earthly response.

You render the evil one speechless and powerless, so that he must needs cower his head in shame and flee, for you my friend are a force to be reckoned with!

As the Word of God declares: ““Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” (James 4:7)
