53. CHARACTER ASSASSINATION

Have you ever felt that you were placed on trial, found guilty and sentenced, before you even knew it and without your ever even being asked to put in your defence? Have you ever found yourself out in the cold, ostracized, in the doghouse by people you were once close to and wonder, how did I get here? What did I do, especially given that they never came to you to explain or discuss anything?

I have been there and am currently going through just that, right this moment. The pain is unbelivable.

I realize, that there has been a campaign to discredit me, a war raged against me, though subtle and when this happens, know that it is a sure work of satan. He is in the midst of it. He has worked assiduously, using people, many times in subtle ways and circumstances, to discredit and condemn you, to lower you in the estimation of others and to turn them against you.

He can wickedly do this, even when you’ve beein doing good and although not perfect, trying to conduct yourself in a manner pleasing to God and being careful to avoid trouble. He can still stir up people against you, even professing Christians, some of them not even realizing that they have allowed themselves to be pawns in his plan and place it in their minds to have aught against you. Alas, he can mobilize people to subtly sow seeds of discord against you and to do it so well that the gullible, spiritually immature and undiscerning are convinced of a certain narrative as it pertains to you, that is not true and my friend, the enemy usually has willing minions, promoted by their own self-interest, to do so.

Dear Believer in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is indeed a very painful thing but when you’ve been the victim of relentless, accusatory, subtle, diabolical and well-orchestrated character ASSASSINATION, stand still and let God do the VINDICATION.

You may be tempted, as I have been when under attack, to be discouraged, to get angry, to feel overwhelmed and to just throw your hands up in helplessness, partly because people have been so eager to paint you black on the one hand and on the other, people, including those who you thought knew you, who you thought would surely know better, have been so quick to believe all of it and stand with them against you, without even once asking you to explain your side of the story.

Yet, as I need to remind myself ever so often (because feeling condemned by others simply because of what others with evil motives have said and done, can be very painful and make you feel quite sad and despondent), “If God be for you, WHO can be against you?” (Romans 8:31 KJV)

Child of God, it may be difficult but all you’ve got to do is BEHAVE YOURSELF WISELY, even as David did and let God do the rest. He came through for his child then and he will come through for you his child, again.

The Word of God states:

  • And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice… And Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, and was departed from Saul. And David BEHAVED HIMSELF WISELY in all his ways; and the Lord was with him. Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.” (1 Samuel 18:11-12, 14-23)

Eventually, Saul died in a battle and God appointed David as king over his people, as he had always intended. HIS purpose was not thwarted by the actions of Saul or any other opposition. He had anointed David to be king and therefore, despite all that Saul tried to do to prevent it, it still happened when God was ready for it to happen.

Child of God, you may not feel like doing it but all you’ve got to do is FALL ON YOUR FACE IN PRAYER, even as Moses did and let God do the rest.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12).

In Moses’ case, the Word of God states:

  • “Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the Lord? And when Moses heard it, HE FELL UPON HIS FACE…” (Numbers 16:1-4)

Indeed, the people kicked up an ugly storm against Moses and his brother Aaron but God intervened to handle the situation. He had appointed Moses to be leader over his people and he did not allow the naysaying opposition to stop him from doing his job. He therefore restored order by stepping in and taking those who were against Moses, out.

The Word of God states:

  • “And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto all the congregation. And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.”

Due to Moses and Aaron’s petition though, where they fell on their faces again to the Lord, the congregation was saved but God destroyed the instigators, by having the earth open and swallow them and all that pertained to them, up.

Child of God, you may be tempted to get all riled up, to be angry, to cry as I have and to want desperately to right the wrong but all you’ve got to do is KEEP SILENT, even as Jesus our perfect example did and let God the Father do the rest.

The Word of God states of Jesus:

  • “…Who, when he was reviled, REVILED NOT AGAIN; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth RIGHTEOUSLY.” (1 Peter 2:23 KJV)

It was the will of the Father that Jesus be crucified and although he was scoffed at, beaten, spit on and suffered tremendously at the hands and mouths of those who were against him, he endured the cross and died but after he did so, God the Father “…raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places…” (Ephesians 1:20 KJV)

CONCLUSION

The moral of these true stories, which God gave for our learning is that no matter what you’re up against, it is good to remember that it ain’t higher or more powerful than the almighty God. He may allow it for a season, yes and this may be very difficult for you but once you behave yourself in a manner that he will be pleased (as David did), don’t give in to temptation and retaliate but remain silent (as Jesus did) and go to God humbly in prayer for help with the issue (as Moses did), God has a track record of intervening to foil or undermine the plan, so as to bring about wonderful victory and vindication.

THEREFORE, you may be hurting and weary (as I feel right now) because the situation has grown so ugly and you feel like you have no control and no strength left to fight to right the wrongs. However, there is one who sits upon the throne who does.

THEREFORE, keep silent. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord your God.

“The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.” (Ps. 103:6)
