76. THE WEIGHT OF LIFE – OVERCOMING BROKENNESS

Financial troubles, medical ailments, broken relationships, family problems, rejection, feelings of worthlessness, fertility issues, singleness, loneliness and many other problems, can make us feel down, discouraged and disheartened at times. Sadness, depression and brokenness are universal. No one is exempt. Feeling down in the dumps because of the weight of life, can affect everyone, irrespective of age, background, race or education.

Yet, there is an answer and a solution to brokenness! You need not go through life always feeling overwhelmed, tired and despondent, any more!

The Bible says that “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit” (Psalm 34:18). Psalm 147:3 states of God that “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

In Isaiah 61:1-4, Jesus Christ, the Son of the true and living God and also God the Son, spoke through the prophet Isaiah, of how he would come to earth to deliver the brokenhearted. He has since come as was prophesied he would and died for your sins and mine. However because he is greater than death and is the Son of God, through the power of his might, he rose again from the dead on the third day, by heaven’s design. This was his plan from inception, as he allowed himself to be killed and his precious, perfect blood shed, so that it could then serve as an atonement or pardon to God the Father, for the sins of the entire world! Isn’t that wonderful?

John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Now, he promises to help and deliver all those that BELIEVE from their heart that he rose from the dead and CONFESS with their mouth that he is Lord, from the burden of sin and the brokenness that comes along with it!

In Isaiah 61, through the prophet, he declared:

• “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are BOUND; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that MOURN; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of HEAVINESS; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. And they shall BUILD the old wastes, they shall RAISE UP the former desolations, and they shall REPAIR the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.”

Good tidings or news of God’s free salvation, is offered to everyone and anyone through the price paid by his Son the Lord Jesus Christ. Accepting this gift by faith in Jesus, can help to bind up your brokenness and set you free where you feel captive, weighed down and burdened or oppressed by people, circumstances and life in general.

Romans 10:9-13, provides the assurance:

• “That if thou shalt CONFESS with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, WHOSOEVER believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto ALL that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you are already a believer, sometimes you will still feel broken, due to the enemy that is sure to come after you as God’s child but sometimes, through your own rebellion, disobedience, foolish decisions and sin.

Whoever you are and whatever you face, you can be helped!
