46. DAMAGED GOODS

Is this you? Despite the front you put on for people on a day to day basis, on the inside, do you feel damaged, betrayed, cast down or broken?

Truth be told, when you’ve been damaged and you admit it and you can’t heal yourself and the people who’ve contributed to the damage don’t care that they’ve damaged you, nor do the people looking on, care to really help you, you have no choice but to look up.

If as a believer in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and one that knows him as Lord and Saviour, you feel damaged by life, people and your own poor decisions and disobedience, then, while you can’t change people or make them sorry for what they’ve done to you, you can take responsibility for your own contribution to your damaged state and do something about it. If you are truly sorry for your sin, have turned from it or are willing to turn from it in genuine repentance, consider praying a prayer, asking the Lord for help. This could be in your own words but I have placed one below that you can consider praying, being sure to engage your heart. Remember, God is not impressed with words as he is with the authenticity of your heart, when you come to him with any petition. Keep this in mind therefore and if you wish and you are serious, you can pray the following prayer to him:

  • “Our Father in heaven, I admit that I’ve been damaged, by my own sin and those inflicted by others. I admit that I am a mess on the inside. I am sorry for disobeying your Word and living a life of rebellion. I admit that I sinned against you when I (name the specific sin or sins) and I was wrong and foolish. I have seen the error of my ways and am sorry that I grieved you by my conduct. I now desire to turn to you again and to turn permanently away from my sinfulness. Please help me almighty God. Please forgive me of my endless sins, blot out my many transgressions, heal me of the inner damage in my soul, mind, body and spirit and then uphold me with the right hand of YOUR righteousness.
  • There are so many people Lord, who want to bring me down. Let them not get the satisfaction Lord. Please help me and heal me. I look to you for deliverance. Please save me from all my sin, all my issues, all the oppression, the suppression, the abuse, the attacks, the ridicule, the insults, everything and let your peace like a river, surround my soul. Please give me a future where the enemy of my soul has willed me to have none and let it all redound to your honour and glory. I ask all this in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

If you’ve sought the Lord with your whole heart, repented of your own wrongdoing and sincerely invited him to heal you of your mess and damage, you can rest assured that he will intervene, in his own timing and way.

2 Chronicles 7:14 states of what God said about his people:

  • “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Isaiah 41:17-20 also reassures all of God’s people who feel damaged by life and like outcasts, rejects and write-offs of society. In this scripture, God told the Israelites through his Prophet:

  • “When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the Lord hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.”
