336. WHEN GOD RENDERS THE NAYSAYERS SPEECHLESS

(The Faith Forum Series – Batch 13)

In my life experiences I have come to realize that there are some people, sadly even persons who (whether sincerely or not) claim to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and even relatives, who don’t wish you well, consider you to be nothing, enjoy your pain, don’t expect anything good to come out of your life and are upset if anything good happens to you or you get to shine or God shows up and shows off on your behalf.

Thanks be to God the Father and his Son the Lord Jesus Christ, that these people are not in control and don’t get to determine the trajectory that your life will take. God does not care what they think or how they feel about you. You are his child if you are a believer in his Son the Lord Jesus Christ and he loves you with an everlasting love. If he intends to promote you, exalt you and bless you, he will and without asking any of them for their permission.

In Psalm 109, David, who endured a similar experience from people, prayed to the Lord saying:

  • “Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise; For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue. They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause. For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love…But do thou for me, O God the Lord, for thy name’s sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me. For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust. My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness. I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.
  • Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy: THAT THEY MAY KNOW THAT THIS IS THY HAND; THAT THOU, LORD, HAST DONE IT.  LET THEM CURSE, BUT BLESS THOU: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice. Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle. I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude. For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.” (Psalm 109:5 and 21-31).

Today, in reflecting on what the Lord has done in my life and how those who have wickedly and relentlessly positioned themselves as my enemies are still reeling in shock over the promotion that HE GRANTED and SUDDENLY, I wrote:

“There is so much to discourage you in this life, like Peninnahs, Sanballats, Tobiahs and Shimeis. These malicious bullies come out in their abundance, usually when you are down and in a low place. BUT GOD is able to help, uphold and bless you despite all the negative talk and down-putting words, calculated to make you feel like you will never get up and out of your situation and that he has abandoned and forsaken you. What I particular love about God is that he promotes, blesses and delivers without asking any one of these naysayers for permission. He usually acts suddenly, to their shock and dismay and does the extraordinary.

He cares not for what they have said, how much they have mocked or cursed you and your efforts with their lips. When he intervenes, he renders all of your enemies speechless.

He told his people in the Old Testament, who had been mercilessly mocked and laughed at by the people around them when they were in a low place because of their sin, that there would come a point when he would intervene to heal and raise them up again. He told them through his prophet:

“For, lo, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the Lord: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they SHALL possess it…For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord; BECAUSE THEY CALLED THEE AN OUTCAST, SAYING, THIS IS ZION, WHOM NO MAN SEEKETH AFTER.” ((Jeremiah 30:3, 33)

In similar fashion, on the preceding day or thereabout, I also wrote:

“Dear Peninnah, you thought, given your role as mocker, taunter and oppressor, that my role was to perpetually cower in oppression and shame as you wickedly and incessantly provoked me. BUT GOD HAD OTHER PLANS! He did not create me to be laughed at by you for a lifetime. Now sit down and LOOK WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE!”.
