259. GOD THE MASTER BUILDER

(The Faith Forum Series – Batch 7)

“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” (Psalm 127:1 KJV)

Whatever God builds is best. Whatever God builds is sustainable. Whatever you are seeking to build, if the Lord is not in it, you are wasting your time. If you’ve started to build and forgot to include him, forgot to rely on HIS divine wisdom and counsel, then you’ve expended all your effort for nought. Worse yet if he told you what to do and you decided to do your own thing. Building with what the Bible describes as “untempered mortar” is always a work in futility.

In Ezekiel 13:11, God stated, through his Prophet:

  • “Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it.”

See, God is an awesome craftsman. He is a master builder. His designs are best. Noah knew this and so he submitted to God’s instructions and the dimensions he set out for the building of the ark. Whatever people may have thought, Noah did all that he was commanded of the Lord (Genesis 6:22).

The result was that when the rain began to fall and the flood came, the ark in which Noah and his household were did not sink but remained buoyant. The Word of God says, “And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and BARE UP the ark, and IT WAS LIFT UP above the earth.” (Genesis 7:17 KJV)

When God is in whatever you are building and allowed to construct as he sees fit, when the storms of life come, floods even, those who have submitted to his designs and his know-how, are BORNE UP despite the rising tide. They don’t sink with life’s pressures (which inevitably will come). They FLOAT.

The waters may prevail and abundantly so but those who know their God know that he is King upon the flood. Psalm 29:10-11 puts it this way. It says: “The Lord sitteth UPON the flood; yea, the Lord sitteth KING for ever. The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.”

It thereby follows, that if you want to build something beautiful, something that will endure, be sure to allow God to draw up your plans and to do the work he desires to do. Let him have HIS way and build whatever he wants to build in HIS own timing. Abandon your plans and put no confidence in your so-called ‘intellect’. Put your trust in HIM and allow HIM to build your life the way that HE pleases.

Naysayers will come yes (they always do) but you will NEVER be disappointed with the end product. For, whatever God is a part of, whatever HE builds is always magnificent. For, he is an excellent God and a God of all excellence.

Let him not be an afterthought or something you consider on the side, as you toil on in this life. Instead, let him be central to all your operations. Let him truly be Lord in your life.
