124. IT IS WELL

(The Faith Forum Series – Batch 3)

I wrote the following in 2015, during one of my most tumultuous, adversity-filled and storm-raging moments in life. I felt inspired to pen how I felt when two people asked me, one of them somewhat sarcastically because she seemingly expected me to be falling apart, “Is all well?”

I responded with firm faith in my Jesus: All is well.

Then, I went home and wrote this:

What baffles me is when people who have professed faith are baffled

When you’re down and out… but yet smiling

Have no money… but yet at peace

In a stormy mess… But yet going about your life… as if nothing has happened and is happening.

These are people who sing from their hymnals

About Jesus being the anchor

Through the stormy tempest

And about having no fear

Because he is here.

Yet…when you’re going through what you’re going through

And the waves hit you on every side

They are baffled, confused even

As to how you could still be standing…

And smiling…

And at peace…

And interacting…

And living…

As if you had not a care in the world.

Then it hit me:

They are baffled because many faith professers

Have a FORM of godliness while denying the POWER thereof.

They wait and they wait

But in vain

Expecting to see you fall apart

Not because they are evil

But because according to their limited way of thinking, that is the natural response to prolonged adversity.

Surely, in their minds, it is not possible to be hit by all that you have been hit with

And continue as if all is well in your world.

BUT ALL IS WELL

Because Jesus Christ lives!

The same power that rose him up from the grave is in me!

It is God’s keeping power that kept JOB when he lost all his wealth, his children and his health.

It is God’s keeping power that kept JOSEPH when he went from daddy’s favorite child to the pit, then the slave house and then to the prison.

It was God’s keeping power that kept JEREMIAH when he was thrown into the dungeon without food or water.

It was God’s keeping power that kept DANIEL when he suffered a similar fate and found himself facing lions.

It was God’s keeping power that kept DAVID when he was on the run from Saul and then later from his own son Absalom.

It was God’s keeping power that kept THE LORD JESUS CHRIST when he was being crucified for all of our sins.

THEREFORE…

Look as you may, you will never see me fall apart.

What you will see though, is my RESURRECTION.

What you will see is my continued PRAISE

To the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

What you will see is me going from GLORY, to GLORY to GLORY…

Because it is God’s keeping power that keeps me.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are KEPT by the power of God through FAITH unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye GREATLY REJOICE, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto PRAISE and HONOUR and GLORY at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:3-8)

ADDENDUM:

In 2015 or 2016, in one of my lowest, darkest, most painful and lonely seasons, I wrote the poem below. Here’s to hoping it blesses and encourages you to keep trusting in Jesus, no matter what season he allows you to go through. Endure hardness as a good soldier! Keep the faith! Press on!

MY POEM

  • People wondered how I could be so calm in the midst of such a storm.
  • Well, I saw the tempest coming…
  • And I felt the waves crashing against me.
  • I certainly felt it.
  • But I knew that JESUS was in the vessel
  • And not just that.
  • I had never been much of a sailor to begin with…
  • Even in moderate conditions.
  • So for this one, I requested of him that he not just be there
  • But that he take the wheel.
  • I figured, since this was someone that already overcame,
  • That went through the worst, yet stayed the course,
  • That navigated through life and emerged victorious,
  • That hit rock bottom but rose again…
  • Then once He took the wheel, my troubles were over.
  • The waves could pelt wherever they wanted
  • The sea could rage however it felt
  • The wind could blow as much as it liked
  • And for as long as it liked
  • And as loud as it liked.
  • No matter how it looked or how long it took
  • Or how much of a soaking I was being made to endure
  • With my drenched weary self…I was making it to shore.
